5th-Nov-2009 02:51 am - lunch
I bento on and off. I have like 4 different sized bento boxes for various occasions and never use them anymore. I wanted to change that. Here is my boring bento from earlier this week. I call it boring because it has no protein and I have an extreme lack of fruits or veggies. It was one of those it's-the-end-of-the-week-and-I-have-no-food-left types of lunches :p

Spaghetti with marinara sauce, buttered bread, and cherry tomatoes with some greens :3

5th-Nov-2009 07:20 am - Bento #265

Couscous with raisins for some extra sweetness, broccoli, phyllo rolls with spinach and feta (I bought those recently thinking they'd be perfect for bento), cherry tomatos and a slice of pomegranate.

;)

5th-Nov-2009 11:44 am - Marutama Ra-Men (Singapore)

When my spicy char siew ramen arrived…I was still very skeptical.  Apprehensively I took a slurp of the soup and I was in broth heaven!!  It was super duper good…very very thick…full of punchy flavour.  I couldn't believe it was a chicken base broth.

The ramen was cooked perfectly….the texture was very “springy”…..and now to the char siew.  I have heard the phrase “oh the meat just melts in your mouth” and well can I say I haven’t actually experienced that much…but I sure did when I tasted this char siew.  Very thinly sliced pork slice…with a nice marbling of fat….every little sliver I popped into my mouth slowly melted on my tongue…it was out of this world.  Pity the ramen came with only 1 slice of char siew….i am so ordering a side the next time, and yes there will be a next time.

4th-Nov-2009 08:35 pm - Easy Jamaican Jerk Chicken

I adore jerk chicken. It's got so many interesting flavors and textures that go so well with vegetables, rice, or even on a bun as a sandwich. The best thing about jerk chicken is that it's much easier to make than most people would think. Sure, it's got a lot of different spices, but none of them are that out of the ordinary; spices like cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and sage, and simple vegetables like onions. Orange juice and lime juice pair well with the heat of the chile peppers in the marinade, so feel free to add more heat if you like! You can substitute any spices that you don't have for those that you do, so play with it and make it your own! Recipe after the cut or on my blog at The Crepes of Wrath.

4th-Nov-2009 05:44 pm - Hello again :)
I keep looking through the q and a but I cant seem to find my answers! :)
Thanks for your help with the rice cooker question! I ended up buying a 30.00 model for now and plan to upgrade if I use it quite a bit :)

Next question:

What is your favorite brand of sticky rice?

I am hoping for a good one for rice cookers. One thats practically no fail? lol. I am HORRIBLE at making rice but I want some good sticky rice for sushi and for Onigiri. I have heard that there is a brown rice Gen Ji Mai rice and wonder how it does in a rice cooker.

SO...tell me all your favorites? :) THANK YOU AGAIN!
4th-Nov-2009 10:24 pm - Make your own sandwich bento.

4th-Nov-2009 04:52 pm - Nom Nom Cupcake?
Last weekend me and my friend made 150 of these pumpkin and chai cupcakes for our town's Halloween celebrations. I actually can't bake, so she made them all, and I decorated them. It was such hard work!! Took all day, and all i have left are these photos  to share with you fellow food-lovers! Enjoy a visual feast!

i love coming back from work, heating myself a nice bowl of stew and eating it with great bread (find an easy recipe here :)) .
especially  i love whipping the thick sauce with a piece of bread and making *NOM NOM* noises :P

so here it is, in all its glory: Thin rib stew, with wheat and olives.

4th-Nov-2009 08:35 am - Bento #105 - Scotch Egg (Sorta)
Today's bento is a little sparse, I have to hit the grocery store today.  Here it is:

Left to Right:
1 - Refrigerator Pickles
2 - Scotch Eggs
3 - Broccoli
4 - Cous Cous

I'd been wanting to try Scotch eggs, but didn't want to bread & deep fry them, so these are my "faux" Scotch eggs.  Lean turkey sausage wrapped around quail eggs and baked.  The sample batch was very tasty, hopefully they will be good at room temperature too.

3rd-Nov-2009 06:26 pm - Boston Creme cupcakes!
First time making these, I added in cream cheese to the recipe so it has more of a pound cake texture to the cupcake.
There's a custard filling on the inside!

my first time using a pastry bag! It was very very messy, but I think I got it down!
Hard to get ingredients and cook when I'm still living on campus =( the grocery store is much to far, and the bus takes years.
but, i think I improvised pretty well. haha
